What To Bring To Uni Halls (Things You Might Forget)

So it's coming around to that time of the year that you may either be starting uni (I'M BUZZING FOR YA) or you may be going in to your second (like me) or third year.

Whether you're living in halls or even a house this may help you finish off your packing list that you've been stuck on for 3 weeks because mum I definitely need that cactus for my room and they won't have a rug as cute as this in my room.

I'm actually staying in halls again for my second year, so I thought it might be handy for me to share some tips of things I realised I was missing when I moved in, like duh, washing tablets so that you don't make the same mistakes I did.

So you thing you're finished with your packing, you've got your brand spanking new pots, pans, plates, those ombre mugs you saw in Asda, duvet and sexy new duvet cover set, etc etc, but... what are you forgetting???
I've compiled a list (over the last like, 2 weeks) of things that you might just forget to bring with you... you're welcome

Kitchen items

  • Cleaning stuff. All the stuff. Or at least ask you flat mates so you can split up the load and know who's bringing what
  • Drying rack for dishes/cutlery
  • Enough cutlery - you will lose some. Or they will get stolen. Don't ask me why, just trust me
  • 2-4 plates/bowls - please don't just bring one. If you somehow manage to end the year with the same undamaged solitary plate it'd be some kind of miracle
  • Glasses (again, they'll probs get smashed)
  • A plastic cup - to take drinks outside in
  • Dustpan and brush
  • Tea towels

Bathroom items

  • Toilet brush
  • Drawers tower - to organise your shower gels, shampoos, cleaning stuff etc - you'll have a lot and it's not cute leaving it all on the floor
  • A bin
  • Towels
  • Hand towel
  • Face cloths
  • Bath mat
  • Toilet roll
  • Toothbrush pot

Bedroom items

  • Ironing board and iron - you can get the cute lil desktop ones
  • Drawers for things like underwear; you'll have a surprisingly little amount of drawer space if your halls are anything like mine
  • A bin
  • A fan (it was like a sauna in every one of mine and my flat mate's bedrooms during the summer
  • Extension lead - check that you're allowed them though
  • Sticky tabs to put posters up - it is not worth a fine at the end of the year because blue tac has messed up the paint on the walls
  • Shoe rack - believe me, you'll need the space, and if you're like me and are likely to bring nearly every pair of shoes you own, you'd be surprised how much room it takes up. PS. Don't bring every pair of shoes you own
  • Money jar
  • Washing basket (I put mine in plastic bags and let's just say it got out of hand)
  • Vanity mirror for your desk
  • Organisers for things like your makeup, notebooks, pens etc. ORGANISE THE SHIT OUT OF EVERYTHING
  • Mattress protector - the beds aren't typically the most comfortable
  • Coat hangers
  • Coat hooks

Academic items

  • Organisers - keep your uni shit organised, I'm telling ya
  • Folders and notebooks (1 for each module, I had a lot of stuff)
  • Pins (for your pin board, not the wall, but pin everything up)

Miscellaneous items

  • Washing machine washing tablets
  • Headphones
  • Bottle opener
  • Paracetamol
  • Berocca (it'll save ya after a night out)
  • Safety pins for girls' outfit slip ups
  • A lanyard to put your flat keys on, or a pom pom so it's easy to find in your bag
  • Dressing gown

What NOT to bring

  • Too many clothes - ROOKIE MISTAKE. DON'T DO IT
  • All your shoes
  • Excessive amount of equipment/wires (there's just not enough plugs)
  • Candles - as much as this breaks my heart, they're not allowed
  • A toaster/kettle - they'll probs already have them

Some tips:

  • Have a look in your halls first if possible to see what things you already have in your kitchen (e.g. toaster, kettle) and your bedroom storage space
  • Buy stuff as a flat. Seriously, you don't need 3 irons, 4 dustpan and brushes and god knows how much washing up stuff. Save ya dollar for things like, yanno, booze
  • Buy notebooks and all your shower stuff once you're there - it's easy enough to buy shampoo and toilet roll, don't let your 18 rolls of cushioned softness take up all the room in the car
