9 Easy Tips For A Better Night's Sleep

Being an adult can be hard (I say this like I'm 35, not 20).

But seriously, whether you're stressing about Uni or college work, are up binge watching That Show On Netflix, are so busy with a full time job or are rushing around with a baby, there's a number of things that can take their toll.

One of which being getting little to no sleep.

You know the drill, you stay up all night, worry about not getting enough sleep ready for the next day but because you're WORRYING so much you end up... not getting enough sleep

I love sleep. I mean seriously, I could spend all day in bed, especially when I'm ill.

But sometimes it's just so damn hard to actually get to sleep because you're brain is somewhere else for one minute and then the next hellooo earth to Sophie it is gone 3am and you need to get up in approximately 3 hours and 16 minutes for work.

So I thought I'd share some little ideas of ways that you can get a better nights sleep.

A few of these I do already and a few I'm still trying to convince myself to do because hell a girl needs her sleep.

Meditation

A know a lot of people are more into this than others but I'm still trying to get myself to try this more.

And it doesn't have to be all the "ohhhhmmmm" shit that you see on the telly, even focusing on slowing your breathing and focusing on well, nothing can really help.

If you're super stressed with the worries from your day definitely give it a go and give yourself a clearer mind ready for bed.

Reading

It's no secret (especially in my household) that I'm a bit of a bookworm. I love reading, and reading before bed can really help me get to sleep.

Except for when I'm so into my book it's early hours of the morning but I'VE FINALLY FINISHED IT.

Oops.

No social media

I'm terrible for it too, don't worry.

But catching up on the Trump Twitter beef at stupid o'clock in the morning isn't gonna help tire you out.

Turn away from your phone

This one especially helps me - I'll purposely put it on the bedside table and face away from it once I'm wanting to go to sleep, so that my boyfriend tagging me in meme's, or my friend's sending me snaps with the dancing granny filter on isn't distracting.

I know it's hard.

Relaxing music

If you are going to listen to music to help you sleep, make sure it's calm and relaxing music, as opposed to something like Avril Lavigne or Little Mix that you'll get hyped up and scream along the words to when everyone else is asleep.

Laura, I'm looking at you.

Have a bath

No more needs to be said.

It is proven that a hot bath with a Lush bath bomb is enough to make anyone happy and content ready for bed.

Proven by me. Goodbye. Soz not soz.

Go at a sensible time

Actually go to bed at a sensible time (again, Laura... *eye emojis*).

Go up just before you know you want to go to sleep and get comfy - shave your legs in the shower, put on your fave pjs and cosy in under your duvet with fluffy pillows and a candle lit and ahhhhh.

Is that just me?

Routine

Setting a routine can really help - I've now come to kind of appreciate why mum would send me up to bed every night when I was in school.

MUM I STILL NEED U

Write it down

If you're anything like me you'll probably have a million things swimming round your head right when you're about to go to sleep like to remember to buy milk tomorrow or girlllll that'd make such a good blog post or shit I need to ring the doctors so write it down

Whether it's in a note or reminder on your phone or in a notebook, get everything out and written down so you can sleep that lil bit easier.
